As you all know, I have never used a foundation. I wrote about it here.
I decided to try a tinted moisturizer first, but couldn’t find a good one. The best – according to the reviews – was Ponds’ TM and it has been discontinued. Another one I wanted to try was Oriflame’s but I don’t know any agent. 🙁
Having read a lot of good reviews of Maybelline’s BB cream, I decided to buy it but when I went to buy it, it was out of stock and I ended up buying the Garnier BB cream. It retails for only Rs.99/- so I thought it’s worth a try.
Ofcourse I know BB cream isn’t really a tinted moisturizer, but effectively it is used as one. I am not too familiar with the concept of BB creams so I’ll let Wikipedia explain it to you.
According to Wikipedia, BB cream stands for blemish balm, blemish base, or beblesh balm (apparently because of a trademark in Korea on the word “blemish”), and in Western markets, beauty balm. It is a cosmetic item sold mainly in East and Southeast Asia, although larger beauty brands are increasingly introducing BB creams to Western markets.
BB cream is promoted as an all-in-one facial cosmetic product to replace serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunblock It can be worn alone as a tinted moisturizer, over serum and moisturizer as a regular foundation, and under powder, depending on the desired amount of coverage.
I’ve been using this whenever I go out since 2 weeks. Firstly the packaging is cute. 🙂 But the tube is very tiny! It is 18gm.
I have not tried the previously launched Maybelline BB cream so I can’t compare this with that, but Garnier’s is cheaper than Maybelline’s BB cream.
The tube comes in a cardboard carton, which is inside a paper case with the same label.
Seeing the cardboard you could never guess that the tube inside is so small, this is because they have actually made the carton much bigger than the bottle, see this picture –
The tube is very travel friendly, it will fit in anywhere.
The nozzle on the tube is also quite convenient; it dispenses just the right amount of cream.
The texture of the cream is neither thick nor runny. I take a very little amount of it and dot it on my face and then blend it. It gets blended very easily. It also feels very comfortable on the face. Not at all heavy. My skin type is combination-oily. But in winters my skin is mostly dry. However, u can see myself wearing this comfortably in summers too when I have a somewhat oily T-zone.
It claims to provide 8H moisturisation. I use this a few minutes after my usual CTM or before I go out. It doesn’t dry out my skin at all. It keeps skin fresh and dewy but I don’t think it can give a lot of moisturization to very dry skin.
One con I feel is that only one shade is available. Although, after blending this cream it really adapts to the skin tone but I feel it won’t suit very dusky skin tones but they should still check this out at the counter.
Talking about the effects of the cream, it definitely evens out my skin tone. It gives sheer coverage which I find perfect for everyday wear. But it won’t cover any blemishes if you wish to, or even dark circles.
It looks very natural on my face and brings a healthy glow which looks very nice. 🙂
I have not noticed any permanent effects from the cream so I think the claim that it is a miracle skin perfector is false or maybe I need to test it out for more time??
Overall, it’s a great everyday product which gives sheer coverage. It evens out skin tone and gives a glow to the face. Though it’s not a miracle skin perfector as it claims, I highly recommend this for everyday use, especially for school or college going girls and at the price, it’s definitely worth a try. If you need medium-heavy coverage, then this isn’t for you.
Why you’ll like it:
1) Great for daily wear.
2) Evens out skin tone.
3) Brings natural and healthy glow to face.
4) Gives sheer coverage.
5) Very easy to blend.
6) Reasonably priced.
7) Attractive and convenient packaging.
8) Travel friendly.
9) Provides decent moisturization.
10)Feels comfortable and non greasy.
11)Sweet floral fragrance.
Why you’ll dislike it:
1) Does not give a lot of coverage.
2) It is not a miracle skin perfector as it claims.
3) Only 1 shade available, which might not suit very dusky skin tones.
To buy or not to buy?
